First Model Prairie Carriage
The 12-pounder mountain howitzer was used in the Mexican War, Civil War & the Indian War.The Mountain howitzer was used on three different types of carriages, the first model prairie and the second model prairie carriage and the pack carriage. Our most popular carriage that we sell is the first model prairie carriage. It is the only carriage in the mountain system that resembles a typical Civil War field carriage. Both the 1st and 2nd model prairie carriages were pulled by a limber. In addition to our standard wood carriage we now offer an all Metal First Model Prairie Carriage. Like the Metal Field Carriages, these carriage are made from Ductile Iron and are designed for out door display. Pictured is a 12-pounder mountain howitzer in Cast Iron on a new Steen Cannons Metal Prairie Carriage at the Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Virginia.
